About the Archive
These photos & documents are an attempt to create a chronicle (of sorts) of my branch of the Berkowitz Family — along with related Ancestors, Yellins, Merlins, Shapiros, & many of our assorted Friends, not to mention 34 some years the family spent on the farm in New Jersey.
It is an incomplete collection, a work-in-constant-progress. It is also a work dependent on the input of said friends & relations, without whom many photo identifications & family tales are impossible. The majority of photos are scans of the original, archival prints from my personal, inherited collection. However, some have been recently contributed by other family members, and these also include a few contemporary pictures.
At first I attempted to preserve the look & feel of the original prints, including the various & sundry scalloped borders of their respective eras, as well as the photographic tinting & timely fading. But the work involved in that process proved so time-consuming that it became necessary to sacrifice such authenticity for the practical simplicity of adding the photos themselves. Which, after all, was the main point of the project.
And so it continues. Please feel free to post a comment or email me with family anecdotes which can be added to the site. And do check back often for new photos or Subscribe here and get automatically notified of new additions to the site.
