For the birds

Sorry, couldn't resist that headline...spent a lot of time the last 3 days obsessed with attempting to get photos of the pair of house finches that have appropriated my bird feeders. Blundered into the discovery that my camera could be operated remotely, when connected directly to my computer, which opened the possibility of getting candid shots of blithely feeding birds. Sounds easier than it was to work out...trying to find the right camera settings & positioning took hours. And then there was the matter of learning to accommodate the delay between pushing the release button & having the shutter actually click...which is not such a problem when shooting landscapes or people (with the exception of 17-mo-old toddlers) but something of a feat when trying to capture wildlife...the real trick of which is being ready & willing to suspend aiming for the perfect shot and just snap intuitively.
